5,000 forint – 200th Anniversary of the Birth of Lajos Batthyány

On 9 February 2007 the Magyar Nemzeti Bank issued a silver collector coin “Bicentenary of the birth of Lajos Batthyány” with a face value of HUF 5,000 in the “EUROPA” international collector coin series. On the obverse there is the impression of Lajos Batthyány’s prime minister’s seal with the circular inscription “PRIME MINISTER’S SEAL 1848” in it and on the reverse there is a half-length portrait of Lajos Batthyány. To the left of the portrait is the legend “LAJOS BATTHYÁNY” and to the right are the dates of his birth and death “1807-1849”. Between the portrait and the circular legend on the right is the joint emblem of the “EUROPA” international collector coin series, the so-called “Euro-Star”. The coin was designed by Márta Csikai. The coin is made of .925 fine silver, weighs 31.46 grams, and has a diameter of 38.61 mm and a reeded edge. 20,000 collector coins may be struck by the special “proof” technology.
