István Örkény, the creator of the world-class Hungarian grotesque prose was born 100 years ago. István Örkény (5 April 1912, Budapest - 24 June 1979, Budapest) pharmacist, Attila József Literature- and Kossuth Award winning author, writer. His literary career really took off in the second half of the 1960s, when his most well-known works, including the "one-minute" stories, philosophical satires of social life and stage works appeared.
The collector coin in recognition the 100th anniversary was designed by Vilmos Király, sculptor. On the front the titles of some works are listed, while the initials of the writer are placed in the centre. There is a portrait of Örkény on the back. The coin is part of the "Great figures of Hungarian literature"-series.
