5 euro – 125th anniversary of the death of Giuseppe Verdi
Series: San Marino – Proof silver 5 euro coins
The obverse features the State Coat of Arms of the Republic of San Marino; around the edge, the inscription ‘REPUBBLICA DI SAN MARINO’; at the base, the name of the designer, A. NAPOLIONE. On the reverse, the coin features Aida, an Ethiopian princess and slave in Egypt, the protagonist of Giuseppe Verdi’s opera of the same name, depicted in profile. In the background are the three pyramids of Giza with papyrus flowers to the right. Completing the coin at the top centre is the inscription ‘VERDI’; on the left, vertically, the name of the designer, D. LONGO, with the initials of Silvia Ciucci, who oversaw the engraving, ‘S.C.INC.’; the letter ‘R’, identifying the Mint of Rome; and the dates 1901 and 2026; on the right, the denomination ‘5 EURO’; and at the bottom, a musical stave with musical notes.
