25 euro – Sedes Vacans MMXXV
We relive the symbolic power of the “Descent of the Holy Spirit” through a refined reinterpretation by artist Daniela Longo of the fresco painted by Guido Reni in 1608, which adorns the ceiling of the Hall of the Ladies in the Vatican Apostolic Palaces. From that majestic work, the coin crystallizes the upper portion, where a choir of angels surrounds the dove of the Holy Spirit placed at the center of the composition, focusing on the pure moment of the divine descent, on the invisible mystery that precedes every visible decision. The Holy Spirit descends from above as renewing light, as the hidden yet powerful guide of the Church in waiting. The choice to depict this scene is not incidental, but deeply evocative of the period of the Sede Vacante, when humanity looks toward heaven and the Holy Spirit is awaited, invoked, and recognized as the sole true protagonist of the future election of the Successor of Peter. This act of waiting and trust finds its counterpart on the obverse of the coin, which bears the coat of arms of the Cardinal Camerlengo, the one who administers and safeguards the Apostolic See with a spirit of service during this suspended time.
