12.5 euro – King Baldwin

King Baldwin is the fifth Belgian monarch appearing on a 12 ½ Euro gold coin. Since 2006 this series commemorates the Belgian Royal Dynasty and contains the smallest gold coins that were ever struck in Belgium. The Mint’s designer was inspired by a portrait of a very young King Baldwin used in the 1950’s for the official medal, celebrating Belgian citizens for remarkable achievements.
