100 euro – The Council of Nicaea
Series: Vatican City – Gold 100 euro coins
The 100 euro gold coin commemorates a foundational moment in the history of the Christian faith, combining artistic value with profound symbolism. The obverse features the coat of arms of Pope Leo XIV, enclosed within a circular mosaic motif echoed on the reverse, accompanied by the inscriptions “LEO XIV PP. – ANNO I MMXXV” and the opening of the Creed: “CREDIAMO IN UN SOLO DIO, PADRE ONNIPOTENTE.” The reverse showcases an evocative interpretation of the Council of Nicaea by artist Loredana Pancotto, with the opening words of the Creed inscribed below in Greek and Latin. A Byzantine-style cross mosaic frames the composition, along with the inscriptions “CITTÀ DEL VATICANO” and “325 CONCILIO DI NICEA 2025,” as well as the indication of the face value.
