100 euro – 125 Years of the Vienna Symphony

In the centre of the coin’s obverse, utterly absorbed in her music, a female violinist plays as if the melody is touching her soul. In the background, an ornamental band in a delicate modernist floral pattern seems to bring the music to life. In front of the violinist’ shoulder a lyre symbolises inspiration and creativity. On the coin’s reverse, a symbol of the beauty and power of music, Euterpe, the muse of music in Greek mythology, plays her flute surrounded by typical classical music instruments – the Viennese horn, harp and cello. The motif is complemented by Art Nouveau ornamentations.
