Lappi's coin portrays the Jätkänkynttilä Bridge in Rovaniemi. The bridge's name was inspired by its two tall pillars, which evoke oblique lumberjack's candles ("jätkänkynttilä" in Finnish) when brightly lit. The bridge, built in 1989, is a fine example of how a new building can quickly rise to the status of important regional landmark. ”This is Finland's first cable stayed bridge. The Jätkänkynttilä Bridge fits the landscape fabulously and is located at the junction of two mighty rivers.”
