This year, for the first time, the Vatican Mint is dedicating the 25 euro rectangular colour silver coin to the Solemnity of Easter. The detail of the Risen Christ depicted on the coin is taken from the fresco “The Resurrection” by Pinturicchio, found in the Borgia Apartment of the Vatican Museums. Artist Antonella Napolione has reproduced the image of Christ in the act of blessing, wrapped in an oval of golden light rising above the tomb. The banner with the red cross on a white background, which we see on the left of Jesus, is the symbol of the resurrection and in Christian iconography represents Jesus’ triumph over death.
