25 euro - 150 Years Semmering Alpine Railway

Series: Austria - Silver-Niobium 25 euro coins

Image of 25 euro coin - 150 Years Semmering Alpine Railway | Austria 2004. The Bimetal: silver, niobium coin is of BU quality.
The obverse of the coin shows an historical and a modern locomotive, representing the technical development in locomotive construction between the years 1854 and 2004. The upper half of the coin depicts the "Taurus", a high performance locomotive from the construction series 1016. Below is shown the first functional Alpine locomotive constructed by Wilhelm Freiherr von Engerth. The coin has a silver ring and the colour of the niobium "pill" is green. The reverse shows a typical Semmering panorama. A steam engine just emerged from a tunnel crosses one of the characteristic viaducts bridging a deep valley in the breath-taking landscape. The green colour of the niobium core reflects the land through which the train travels.
