In Finland, the Children and Creativity commemorative coin was the first coin whose theme was selected by the public. Over 1,000 visitors to Mint of Finland’s website voted for art student Roope Määttä’s design, Taivaanrannan tuolla puolen (Over the Horizon) to help choose the theme of the Children and Creativity commemorative coin. According to designer Roope Määttä, the Children and Creativity commemorative coin depicts a moment when an impossible thing comes to pass and another goal is set. However, Määttä says that the commemorative coin also shows the importance of always remembering one’s roots.
