10 euro - 43rd World Day of Peace

In his message for the World Day of Peace, Pope Benedict XVI has chosen the theme "If You Want to Cultivate Peace, Protect Creation". Creation is the beginning and the foundation of all God’s works and therefore it must be respected and safeguarded always. The Pope also stressed this point in his Encyclical Letter Caritas in Veritate where he notes that human development is tightly linked to the duties we have with regard to the natural environment, which is a gift of God. He noted the common responsibility to care for the environment, especially in view of how it affects the world’s poorest and future generations. The design depicted on the coin to represent this theme is of a family farming their own land with great care, a work by artist Patrizio Daniele.
